Chapter Five

As I woke from a deep sleep, I stretched out on the luxurious sheets on the huge bed. I turned to snuggle into Jet’s arms, but found only a cold and empty space. I opened my eyes and gazed around the playroom, which was dimly lit by a small lamp on a side table.

“Jet?”

But the room was empty. He must have gone to the bathroom. When he hadn’t returned a few minutes later, I climbed out of bed and padded across the cool, tiled floor. I turned the handle on the door and pulled to open it, but it refused to budge. What the hell? I tried again, this time tugging on the handle, but it still didn’t open. It was locked. Jet had played me at my own game. He’d used me for his amusement and now that he was done with me he had taken me prisoner. He must have known all along who I was and just wanted to have some fun while I naively believed I could find evidence against him. And to think I’d trusted him.

I made my way across to another door in the opposite corner. Maybe he’d forgotten to lock that one? It opened without any problem, but it only led to a small bathroom. I scanned the room for any other possible exit but the windows were thick and sealed tightly shut. My only way out was through his office.

A surge of anger flared through me. How fucking dare he lock me up like this? I ran back over and banged my fist hard on the door. “Jet! Jet!” But there was only silence. Damn!

I glanced at the clock on the wall. It was three o’clock in the morning, and still dark outside. Surely when I didn’t call in later today Don would raise the alarm. But what if Jet sailed away with me on board? I needed to call Don now, but my phone was in my handbag—which was in Jet’s office on the other side of that fucking door.

I stomped back to the bed and slumped onto it. What the hell was I going to do? Here I was, locked in the most incredible playroom I’d ever seen after having had the most amazing sex I’d ever had, and all I wanted to do was escape. Because if Jet really was a drug dealer, I was in deep shit right now. Would he hurt me? My instincts about people were usually quite good, but I’d clearly gotten it spectacularly wrong this time.

I lay down and stared up at the ceiling. I had allowed myself to fall for a man who was rotten to the core. A man who was dangerous and didn’t care about the lives he destroyed as long as he made his fortune. I had come here fully prepared to use the dirtiest tricks I could to catch him out and it didn’t get much dirtier than what we’d just done. But worse, I had fallen for his charm and he had taken advantage of my weakness.
